DAY #93 SELF CARE LIFESTYLE HABITS


BROOKE SNOW THE PODCAST – Episode 15

Today, of course, is FRIDAY FITNESS AND HEALTH. I’ve tried to get into the habit of, throughout the day, asking myself, What is the most healthiful thing I can do for myself right now? When I feel frustrated, I ask myself this question. When I feel bored. When I feel a craving for sweets. When I feel overwhelmed, I ask myself, What is the most healthiful thing I can do for myself right now?

After the first couple days, I decided I needed a list to choose from, in case the answer didn’t come easily. Here is what I came up with one late night, after an evening of prayer and thought on self-care:

  • Floss my teeth
  • Drink a cuppa
  • Take a warm bath
  • Take my vitamins
  • Drink two full cups of water
  • Drink lemon water
  • Take a walk outside
  • Call Suzanne
  • Take a nap
  • Eat a fresh vegetable
  • Participate in a guided stretch
  • Participate in a guided meditation
  • Drop one of the items on my to-do list
  • Read my scriptures
  • Get a massage
  • Face mask
  • Exercise
  • Do something that is uncomfortable for me

EARLY TO BED EARLY TO RISE:

Doctrine and Covenants 88:124 says, “…cease to sleep longer than is needful; retire to thy bed early, that ye may not be weary; arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated.”

DRINK WARM/HOT WATER:

“Your digestive gut has pores, similar to your skin. Warm water opens those pores and allows your body to more fully absorb those nutrients in your food.”

TONGUE SCRAPING:

“After you brush your teeth. Using a stainless steel u-shaped tongue scraper, you scrape your tongue 10-14 times, every morning and every evening…

Rid your body of what it has already detoxed for you.”

DRY BRUSHING:

“Before you shower, use a natural bristle brush, all over your body.”

It is another way to help your body detox. Dry brushing brushes off all the dead cells. So good for your circulatory system and your lymphatic system.

OIL MASSAGE:

“Before or after you shower, you massage your body with a natural oil – coconut or sesame oil… Use this time to lovingly thank your body for all that it does for you – thank each part of your body for what it does for you.”

Feet, legs, arms, chest, neck, face, scalp everything.

The first time I tried this practice, I was emotional, thanking my body for all that it has done for me, and all that it is still doing for me, selflessly, and dependably.

Nurturing yourself gives you the capacity to nurture others. The more you love yourself, the more you love others. The more you give yourself grace and compassion and kindness, the more you give others grace and compassion and kindness.”
