DAY #122 SO WHAT

Okay. Today I am looking at using the Compound Effect – setting “floors” or small goals – to make big long-term changes in my life. And the WHY’s behind each, right?

“Forget about willpower. It’s time for why-power. Your choices are only meaningful when you connect them to your desires and dreams. The wisest and most motivating choices are the ones aligned with that which you identify as your purpose, your core self, and your highest values. You’ve got to want something, and know why you want it, or you’ll end up giving up too easily.”

EXERCISE

  • Floor – 10 burpees
  • Ceiling -Work out at the gym
  • WHY – I want to age comfortably

Wait. Wait. Wait. I was taught better than that.

“In creating a floor think small, and then go even smaller.”

Let’s try that again.

EXERCISE

  • Floor – 5 burpees (that is more like it!)
  • Ceiling -Work out at the gym
  • WHY – I want to age comfortably

INTIMACY WITH BRYANT

  • Floor – Hug Bryant for 3 minutes straight
  • Ceiling – Make love to Bryant
  • WHY – My relationship with Bryant is the most important relationship in my life, and physical intimacy strengthens that relationship

SELF CARE

  • Floor – Brush my teeth, wash my face, deep breathing mantra: You are 100% worthy, just the way you are. You are 100% worthy, just the way you are
  • Ceiling – Clean, massage and thank each part of my body
  • WHY – Daily care sets me up for a healthy life-time

CLEAN HOUSE

  • Floor – Pick up 100 things
  • Ceiling – Full house clean-up
  • WHY – I feel the Spirit in my home more when it is organized and cleaned

MORNING ROUTINE

  • Floor – Awake by 6am, prayer, deep breathing, walking, burpees, review day before breakfast
  • Ceiling – Awake by 5am, prayer, gym, deep breathing, walking, burpees, review day before breakfast
  • WHY – I have never been consistent with a morning routine, but Darren Hardy has me wanting the benefits that I can reap now, and that will serve my future-self well, by living a consistent morning routine – efficiency, sets me up for the day

KIDS-TO-BED ROUTINE

  • Floor – Family prayer before bed
  • Ceiling – Family prayer, personal prayers, and a song or two on the guitar, once the children are in bed
  • WHY – Night time is a time that I have to connect with my children, and I want to use it to that end

Again, the idea is, if I do at least the “floor”, every single day, no matter what, for a life-time, that will give me long-term benefits – life-time benefits. When I set these floors, I asked myself, can I really do that for a life-time? And I can reevaluate, at any time.

I can do this. I can get a “win” every day. I need to figure out how to report my daily floors/ceilings hit. If for nothing else, for the endorphin release I get when I check that item off my list.

“The Compound Effect is the principle of reaping huge rewards from a series of small, smart choices.”
