Who is on your heavenly team?

“And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.”

I feel the Lord on my “team”, the Savior and the Spirit. For sure. Every day I want you to know that I feel them with me, helping me and comforting me, and teaching me, every day. Who else is on this heavenly team? “Mine angels (shall be) round about you”!

“From the beginning down through the dispensations, God has used angels as His emissaries in conveying love and concern for His children… Usually such beings are not seen. Sometimes they are. But seen or unseen they are always near.”

If they are always near, why is it that I don’t “receive” communication from them always?

This could be due to the nature of the gift of agency. I think the Lord wants us to experience some things and make some judgement calls using our own minds, acting on our own desires, rather than having a heavenly messenger tell us what to do, or step in for us to prevent consequences of our judgement calls.

That may be one reason. Another may be that we are not asking for or taking advantage of this privilege that God has already given us. These angels are “always near”. Do we use them? Or do we not know about them, or not know about them enough to take advantage of their help? When I was in college, there was a counseling center that was meant to help us know what classes we need to take to get to where we wanted to get to, right? And they helped get internships and they job placement, etc. Their whole purpose was to help me with my personal and academic goals. Incredible service, right? And I knew about that help available, but I thought it was really only for the students who were very much struggling. And I was basically okay. So I didn’t take advantage of that free help available to me! I didn’t take advantage of that privilege that BYU had already given me.

Likewise, the angels are already charged to care for us.

“Use your agency to associate with them.”

Brooke talks in her podcast today about different kinds of angels that she associates with – that she calls on for help. “Writing angels” when she was writing her book. “Cow-herding angels” when her cows broke through her fence. “Sleeping angels” when her daughter couldn’t sleep at nights.

Where do I need angels in my life? I would love “Mothering-teenagers angels”. I would also love “Daughtering angels”. I would love “Cheerleading angels” as I learn to manage my brain, stay in my own model, and seek gifts for my future-self. I could really use angels to help me with my children’s education. It was the first day of school this past week, and it’s on my mind.

“I can’t go to school with my children, but angels can… Being where I can’t be and doing what I can’t do.”

When I use my imagination, and use faith, I can picture, in my mind, this heavenly team in my life. I can picture them, in my mind, surrounding my children as they walk into the school building. I can picture them, arms around me, as I do thoughtwork around things I want to change in my life. I can picture them lying next to me when I can’t sleep at nights, worrying about this or that. Can I actually delegate some of my worry to those angels? There is nothing I can do for my parents, dear angel. I cannot be with them. I have not entirely learned to even manage my brain around their divorce. Can you be where I cannot be? Can you do what I cannot do? Can I delegate that worry to you?

How could that literally change my life, change my health, change my relationships – even my relationship with myself?

“How would your life be enhanced with a heavenly team?”

I want to start practicing this – asking for this privilege that is already mine. Angels.

“You may … ask God for His angels to walk with you where you presently do not want to tread.”
