THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS – October 2020
For the past two days we have been sitting as a family, at our kitchen table, with food and art projects in front of us, and the Church’s semi-annual General Conference playing on the loud speakers above us. It was a wonderful conference!
Some of the remarks by the prophet, President Russell M Nelson, are on my mind tonight, as I get ready for bed.
“I’ve asked the Lord to help me understand what you are feeling or worrying about or trying to resolve. I’ve wondered what I might say.”
I want you to know that I have a testimony of the prophet of the Lord. God loves us. And He has sent a prophet to counsel us and to comfort us, and to direct us, as we are willing to accept direction, toward our Heavenly Father and His work.
The prophet’s words were not new ideas to me:
“(I pray you will feel ) the optimism about the future that I know the Lord wants you to feel.”
He said:
“The challenge for you and me is make certain that each of us will achieve our divine potential.”
This has been one of the themes of my ONE YEAR. And the “how” has been the focus of my studies. Understanding my divine nature is central to achieving my divine potential, as is understanding His divine nature.
“We all have our agency. We can choose to be of Israel, or not. We can choose to let God prevail in our lives, or not.”
I wrote to a friend: I am thinking about the prophet’s words: Letting God “prevail” in my life. What would that look like? How would my life be different? How would my future look if I more consciously opened my mind and my heart to the Lord’s will in my life?
And this week I want to spend some time, in my personal study and in my brain self-care, asking myself these questions, and asking God these questions.
“We often hear about the ‘new normal’. If you really want to embrace a ‘new normal’, I invite you to turn your heart, mind, and soul increasingly to our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Let that be your ‘new normal’.”
